Volusia County Schools Extended Day Enrichment Program changes

We moved here from Flagler County and they accept every child who applies, as far as I know. I never had trouble getting my child in to their extended day program. I don't understand why Volusia County isn't the same. The fees are the same. Why the difference?

If families are put through separation of children or a parent's employment is put in jeopardy, how will that benefit anyone? Once again, children first??? Hmmm .. Food for thought.

It has worked with 1st come 1st serve forever! Why would you change it! Keep it the way it is!!

Personally, I feel that this might have good repercussions. I don't see that it says anything about siblings not being accepted. Some parents don't have the opportunity to be at the school "first" to sign up their child, and I don't feel like they should be faulted for that! The same people who are worried about being able to pick up their child each day at 2:00 are the ones I would think would be pleased with this "random draw" idea. Many counties don't even offer Extended Day services, so we should be happy with any chance! I say, give it a try and see how it goes!

They have ALREADY made the "policy change"! I'm trying to stop it from being implemented on April 28!

Pass this and your are out of a job! This is Volusia County with limited resources!

I don't understand how the School Board thinks the full time working parent or teacher can pick up there child at 2:05 or earlier. What are we suppose to do?

This will also affect some Childrens ability to participate in after school programs, such as sports and tutoring, if they have to go to After School off campus. It should be first come, first serve.

This us totally unfair and absurd. Sadly the children and parents will be thrones to suffer, not the suits making these decisions.

Hello guys, Looking at the activity on this campaign, I can tell that we can get some very valuable advice on petitioning experience from you. I only have 4 questions, if any of you have 60 seconds to provide us meaningful insight on your experiences: 1) If you could not sign/create petitions anymore, what would be your biggest worry? 2) In regards to petitioning, are there any problems that you encounter that hinder the success of the petition? 3) What prompted you begin petitioning and supporting other petitions? 4) We are working on new ways to allow campaigners and supporters to attach monetary pledges to their petition campaigns. Here is the email conversation with Teri Houser. That is the contact on the letter that went home: I am concerned about the policy that has now been implemented for the 2014-2015 school year for the Extended Day Enrichment Program. I have a few questions for you: When was this policy decided? Was this new policy discussed at any School Board Meeting? Who funds the Extended Day Enrichment Programs? County? VCSB? FDOE? DOE? Is the Extended Day Program covered under any Statute? Is the Extended Day Program covered under policy any where, whether the School Board Policy, or the DOE? Please reconsider...this is SO unfair!!!

Volusia County already has limited resources and poor child care choices already. Homeschooling is looking more like a better choice for our family.

This is ridiculous if your children has been attending this program for years and now to all of a sudden change to random drawings makes no sense! Who voted on this, and how come it is implemented without a discussion first!

It is completely unfair to those who need this after school program to pay 40 a week compared to 100 or more at local day cares. It's always been first cone first serve and it should stay that way!
