Volunteer Firefighter Benefits Petition
Today it is time to pay attention to a crisis that can no longer be ignored. West Virginia, as well as many other states, is facing a critical volunteer firefighter shortage. In West Virginia, volunteer fire departments cover roughly 92% of the state’s land mass. 90.9% of the fire departments in West Virginia are manned completely by volunteers. Over the past 13 years, the state’s volunteer firefighter numbers have dropped 30%. This is an astronomical and dangerous loss. Many of the volunteers are older members looking to retire eventually, but there is no one to replace them. We are desperate for help, and need your support. We can no longer ignore the ones who put others first. We can not leave our selfless heroes in the dark any longer. I urge you to help us recruit new members and support those who already risk their lives, for no pay, to help their communities, by signing this petition. We do not have the heart to strike because that could cost our neighbors their lives, but it will come to a point that we do not have the manpower to save lives and property. Take action by signing this petition that demands legislators to implement tax credits, student loan debt forgiveness, grants, scholarships, and other rewards. We ask that you show your support for this movement.
