At a public meeting at the Gazelle International Hotel we were told that the Licence would be a "Temporaty One" and an Environmental Impact Study be done and that would be subjected to a "Peer Review" and then made Public. I have never heard a word since then.

stop this senseless project. its going to destroy the natural environment which is source of livelihood for the local communities and a natural habitat for the pristine marine life. no consultation was done with the communities before the project was undertaken. i live 3 kilometres inland from the project.

We were born in Rabaul and have lived in Kokopo, Rabaul most of our lives and still do. We know the waters surrounding the area well. Allowing the shit to be pumped into the sea would be disastrous for our children and our future generation. Those responsible for approving and allowing the sewerage into our waters will be held responsible by the people of East New Britain. This monstrosity must and will stop. We will work our butts off to relocate the sewerage ponds inland and to pump the shit into inland ponds. NO SHIT INTO OUR SEA.

The sewage treatment pond is established in a environmentally fragile location. Particularly, it a dolphin feeding area, with fringing coral reefs that are pristine. If any natural disasters including the tsunami, there will be significant environmental catastrophe, thus, the pond have to be relocated away from the sea.

As everything else in PNG, environmental impact studies on the sewerage project was not done properly and ad-hoc decisions to change the location of the project to the current area next to the beach will affect everyone and everything around it. The pipeline to discharge the sewage supposed to be some kilometers along the seabed before it’s discharged .... this has not been implemented as well. The dolphins attract so many tourist to the area and many villagers live along the beach... can you imagine what will happen to them? Contamination in the water, cholera, .... all sorts of sickness... more people getting sick and with current conditions of our hospitals.... death rate will only increase. Greed and corruption must be eliminated.
