PETITION STATEMENT: We are petitioning the Texas Congress for implementation of an educational policy for additional and continuous funding to provide virtual education in Texas public schools.

Petition Summary: We are advocating for a Texas Educational Policy implementing virtual learning in the Texas public school system. Children in Texas deserve the opportunity to receive a quality education that is comfortable for them and that fits their life situations. The policy will address expansion of the use of technology through virtual learning and distance learning for students in grade school through high school. Virtual learning will meet the needs of economically disadvantaged students, students with disabilities, students at high risk of not meeting state academic standards, students with limited access to high quality public school choice options, and students currently home schooled. Approximately 75,000 students dropped out of public schools in Texas from 2008-2010. Virtual education could provide some of those students the opportunity to make up some courses and mend their education and put them on the path to receive a diploma. Research reveals that only 15% of U.S. teachers have at least nine hours of training in education technology. This policy will also address the need for additional funding for training educators in modern technology.
