All citizens should be taken care of properly while they are in an Assisted Living Facility! Signs of neglect should be reported immediately and the Facility should be investigated!

This is my Grandmoddy and the main reason I started the petition. Sadly, she passed away on Oct 25th. There are so many left having to rely on the people in nursing homes to care for them and they still need our help. We need way more signatures than this. Please please share to get this out there and help us get the signatures needed so we can get a voice for the ones we love left that have such a small voice and aren't being heard!! We need to speak up for our elderly because most of them can't do it themselves and/or are afraid to report things for fear of more harm to them. Family members can't always be there 24/7 to protect them. This is so wrong.

This is so disgusting that a person paid to take care of a person who is unable to care for themselves and is elderly on top of it, to be beaten and abused this way. Charges of negligence and abuse should be brought agaist person(s) who did it and the facility who employees them/allow this treatment. Where is responsible to due diligence of safety. I would LOVE to give each person the same treatment!

I totally agree with her. I trained as a CNA and couldn't face how others would treat patients. No one listened then and its getting worse. I would be the first in line to take this on. We all deserve to be treated with respect and dignity.

My Mother was in Colonial Heights Reb ..worst experience ever..We ended up signing her out early and finishing therapy at home

It breaks my heart reading your comments. Please please, once you have signed, take a moment to share this petition with your friends and family as well so that we will have a greater chance of getting the number of signatures that we new and as fast as possible. We need to try to get this done ASAP because the longer it takes, the longer our loved ones and the loved ones of others will be sitting in one if these places praying for a change yet living another day without one. these people need to be punished. they are sick

When you put a loved one in a facility, it's best to check in on them often. The elderly are treated like they are not human in some of these facilities. My aunt was mistreated in the Colonial Heights facility as well.

My mother was ignored by staff and if we had not got her a cell phone the day before she would have died in the nursing home she was there for rehabilitation after surgery

Something has to change! Been through this with my now deceased parents. I will gladly fill this position and work for the state; we need a simple position such as this, to simply protect. It doesn't have to be someone with a BSN or MD after their name; someone with common sense and can see patterns with the residents will b more than qualified. From what I see, facilities are being staffed by lowly paid CNA's and one or two RN's per shift. This is not sufficient. CNA's get all the grunt work of changing diapers, bathing patients, turning them etc. They are not always the best trained and instead of handling loads of paperwork, the RN needs to be on the floor, in the unit/wing, overseeing what is going on. Patient's are being turned over in an incorrect manner on a routine basis; look at the (thin) skin of the elderly, they bruise easily. Whatever happened to what TLC actually stands for? We need to start anew and I believe getting the State of Virginia involved at many levels (APS, State Corporation Commission, Senior Advocacy Groups etc) is a good place to begin.

My daughter has worked at several local Nursing Homes/Health Care Facilities and her experiences were sad and left a toll on her.

My mom was in a home for a month. I worked a full time job and lived over an hour away. When She first went there for rehab I said I couldn't come every day....but after the way I found her the next time I went me or my sister went EVERY DAY. Mom was crying when I got there, bed soaking wet, she said she had pushed the button but nobody came. I found all of the nurses on her floor at the smoking area..I took the roof off that place. No body deserves to go to one of those places. I'm sure there are some nice ones, but I'm also sure the bad ones out weigh the good.

Thank you all so very much who have signed already and too all who will sign after me. This, I am finding out more and more every day, is a very big problem within the healthcare facilities all over. The stories I have heard from people in just a few groups have astounded me. If there are that many people there, its heartbreaking to think of the numbers from all over who have experienced this, either themselves or with a loved one. All I can think about anymore are the ones that are helpless and being treated this way and either they are scared to tell or they have no one to tell or just no one will listen, and it makes me cry. How happy and peaceful and thankful and loved they would all feel if finally there were people there that were there just for them? To help to protect them. A voice that others would listen to on their behalf and to finally put a stop to it. Our elderly loved ones have lived a life we have not yet and have learned what we have not yet. They have worked and loved and raised and taught. They deserve to live the rest of their days in comfort and peace with happiness and to not be afraid or to feel like a burden or like they don't matter anymore. I can only imagine how they must feel having to keep living day and night in a place where they are made to feel this way. I pray that this petition gets more signatures and comments that just cannot be ignored and that we can all together like make the difference that would mean more to so many than we could ever imagine. Please, also think about it this way as well, one day, ourselves may be in their shoes. Our children may be in their shoes. Things cannot stay this way. If its this bad now, how much worse will it be then if no one changes it? God bless!!

There needs to be accountability in these facilities, our loved ones need to have much better care and treatment.

too many things get over looked by administration including nurses when things have been reported.. even cna's are afraid to report incidents due to retalliation maybe even losing their jobs.. we as cna's are the residents ears eyes n voices but even were ignored..

Everyone of us will one day be elderly. This has to stop now, for your loved ones and for you one day!!!

My mom was at riverview on the appomattox I tried for 2 days to get them to send her to ER on the 3rd day I finally got a compassionate nurse who noticed she was sick too and called her Dr and told him she needed to go (Dr mogul would not come and check her out). She finally was sent to ER then to telemetry unit her BP was 70/40, acute kidney failure, 100% asperating at least a weak, fluid around her heart and in her lungs. Right arm was swollen for 3 weeks. She only lived 2 days in hospital.
