Virginia Dental Hygienists’ Association Position Paper

I support our hygienist and signed my petition to prevent an dentist to practice hygiene without a licence.

As a dental professional myself I know that no unlicensed individuals should ever practice dental hygiene on any patients. Dental hygienists are required to scale below the gum line. If you aren’t licensed that’s illegal.

Respect dental hygienists

Why would anyone lower the clinical standards set by CODA during direct patient care is beyond me. Interesting these house bills do not lower dentists clinical standards only dental hygienist clinical standards - WHY??? I am opposed to decreasing clinical standards during direct patient care for all licensed oral healthcare providers.

Hygienists are highly specialized health care professionals and our patients deserve the best care possible.

I oppose ADA Policies 514H-2024, 513H-2024, and 401H-2024. Allowing OPAs or any other uneducated and incompetent persons to oversee and treat the public's oral health is dangerous. Anyone who allows this type of practice is opening themselves to litigation.

Please keep the profession of dental hygiene a trusted quality healthcare field by opposing the changes being reccommended by the ADA. These changes, if passed, could affect the quality of care being given. Thank you- Kerri Hendershot, RDHBS

Only the highly trained should be aloud to work inside your mouth !

My daughter went thru 4 years of school to clean teeth. No one wants an inexperienced person cleaning their teeth

Our patients deserve and my ethics require the very best clinical treatment and professional care.

I oppose allowing dental assistants perform cleaning functions without the same training and education as hygienists

Passing these would only cause detrimental long term damage and neglect proper patient care/education.

I understand the squeeze that the profession is experiencing and this is NOT the best way to fix the dilemma. Hygienists are more than just “tooth cleaners”

Went to college in Virginia and practiced dental hygiene there for 16 years. I am opposed to the OPA and similar legislation.

This is ridiculous. Just look at the schooling a hygienist has to go through to practice.

Look for the license!
