UK Trading Standards

According to theUK Trading Standards Legislation, contraception & other related products doNOTfall under the category ofAge Restricted Productsand therefore can be purchased legally without providing proof of age.

UK Age of Consent for Sexual Activities
Thelegal age of consent for sex / sexual activities in the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Ireland & Wales) is16 yearsand has been since1885.

Alcohol ETC (Scotland) Act 2010
This act was introduced back in 2010 as a measure to prevent theunder ageselling ofalcohol products.Since it's introduction, it has been been enforced onall age restricted productslisted underUK Trading Standards. Contraception isNOTlisted as anAge Restricted Product.

Sainsburys UKare therefore, in by making a product age restricted that is not listed as such by theUK Trading Standardsor theAlcohol ETC (Scotland) Act 2010, in violation.

A large majority of 16 year olds don't have or carry proof of age, but seen as there is no age limit on contraception or other related products, proof of age is not required anyway.

Sainsburys abuse of "Challenge 25" is preventing young teens from purchasing what they need to have safe sex, possibly leading to teens having unprotected sex which spreads STIs and can lead to pregnancy.

This petition is to bring J Sainsbury PLC to the attention of UK Trading Standards and other authorities whilst also making contraception in their stores available to everyone without the need for identification.
