Victoria Ballesteros-Gonzalez, Freshman, Senator Petition
Hello Illinois Wesleyan!
I am Victoria Ballesteros-Gonzalez, a freshman majoring in Economics and planning to minor in Environmental Science.
I am looking for your signatures to be honored to be your class senator!
I'm the former Student Association President, Student Mediator, Intercultural Club Activities Leader, Girl Up Club President, and collaborator in the organization of sports events and LGTBIQ+ formation at my high school.
I have addressed twice the United Nations Headquarters to warn about the lack of awareness and the scarcity of resources that prevent sustainable development.
I care about our opinion, which is why I have worked with several TV / Radio / News programs to make students' thoughts heard. Along the same lines, I make our concerns about the environment heard in a Forum on Climate Change, being the only woman and only minor present-- speaking and sharing the stage with Robert Francis Kennedy (lawyer and environmental activist, nephew of John F. Kennedy), Juan Verde (former Obama adviser) and other professors.
I believe that my background and dedication to work, along with my passion to hear about other students' and youths' diverse opinions, shows that I am not going to disregard my fellow students' voices. In fact, I am already impassioned with our community, our growing ideas, and our impactful opinions.
If you elect me as a Student Senator, we will work together to make IWU a safe place: a safe place for all of us, a safe place for the planet, a safe place to be who we really are. I strive for us to express our differing cultures, opinions, thoughts... and to work together to change the world starting by improving IWU.
