Island Bantam & Midget Rep Girls Hockey Regions back to 3
Recently Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association reversed a decision put in place by their own appointed committee that supported 3 Bantam and 3 Midget Girls Rep Hockey Teams instead of 2. This decision will displace the equivalent of two whole teams of girls who will be forced to return to house, play boys hockey, or quit. The remaining girls will have to travel further distances for practices and games. Emotional impact, stress, loss of ice time and development opportunities are just some of the considerations. The decision to carry only two teams on the island does not take into account the needs and wants of the players. The decision to dissolve the Mid-Island teams and the situation it has caused for the players does not support the VIAHA or BC Hockey's mandate to further expand and develop female hockey. Because of this, we request that VIAHA immediately reverse their decision to have 2 Bantam and 2 Midget Rep Girls Teams on Vancouver Island and return to 3 teams, with the South, Mid, and North teams, and for the players to return to their pre-appointed teams so that they can immediately continue with their hockey season.
