The reason for this petition is to bring a quality veterinarian school to ERIE county. There are very few vet-schools in our country and this restricts the lives of many students seeking higher education opportunities. For most students the college experience is hard enough, but adding the fact of moving away from family and friends can be devastating to their concentration.
My fiance is struggling with the fact that she has to move away from our home where we are finally settled into. She has a hard time being away from family as most students. Family helps to motivate you to accomplish your dreams and being away from them can make your mind wander away from your goal to become something in life. I\'m sure that many other students striving to achieve something wonderful are battling with this same situation. There are plenty of medical schools in ERIE county, but not a single vet-school. There is only one in New York and that is an estimated 5 hours away. My fiance oftens talks about changing her major and forgetting about school all together just to avoid having to move away from her home. When I hear her talk like this it upsets me because I know how much it means to her to become a veterinarian.
This petition is encouraging a vet-school in ERIE county, but I think that there should be more all over the US. I don\'t believe that education should be restricted by the location and scarcity of schools. I am asking you to think about what I have said and join me in my plee for a vet-school in ERIE county.
I am sending this message to all students of the WNY area that are struggling with this same situation, the faculty of all school that believe in the importance of higher education, and everyone else that cares about the future of their children who have dreams. Together we can hope to make a difference for our future generations.
I hope to have a graduate program for veterinarian medicine in ERIE county by 2005 or sooner. Thank You for your time and support.
The stories shared in the comments prove that local families are being forced to choose between their education and their home. Post this link to your Facebook timeline and email your local representative to demand they acknowledge this shortage. We are building the pressure needed to bring a vet school to Erie County.

The momentum behind this push is real and shows how many families are tired of choosing between their home and their education. Use the link below to email your local representatives and demand they address the lack of veterinary programs in our county. Send a text to three neighbors right now and tell them why we need this school here.

Good luck. My sister had to move to Ohio for school and it was way too expensive compared to staying local. This totally makes sense.

It sucks that she might have to change her major just because of where schools are located. Keep fighting for this.

Seriously? Only one school in the whole state? That is pathetic. Fix this!

Driving 5 hours just to get to class is insane. We have plenty of room here and so many kids want to help animals but get discouraged by the distance.

My wife is in the same boat. It shouldn't be so hard to get an education without leaving your whole life behind. Erie needs this.

UPVOTED! We need more options. Not everyone can just pack up and move across the state for school.
