They Earned It, Let Them Smoke!
Lawmakers in Illinois are now back in session, and the statewide smoking ban has now taken effect in Illinois. We believe that veterans, those who have placed themselves into harms way for the rights of all Americans, have earned the right to not be affected by the smoking ban that has taken effect throughout the state. People throughout the state as well as the nation do not seem to understand that this issue is not just about smoking. This is about our freedom to choose. I understand not being able to smoke in government buildings, and public places that are open to the entire public, and I am not in any way suggesting that smoking should be allowed in these places. What I am saying is, American Legion and VFW halls should be able to choose for themselves whether or not they allow smoking. That being said, American Legions and VFW posts, and their supporters statewide are asking Illinois lawmakers to amend the smoking ban to exempt American Legions and VFW posts. These posts are by-in-large members only organizations that limit the access of the public to their buildings. Bearing all this in mind we ask that you please sign our petition and show your support for the rights of Illinois Veterans to not have one of their freedoms, which they fought so hard to protect, taken away. They protected your rights, don\'t take theirs away. They earned it, LET THEM SMOKE!!! This petition is not affiliated nor endorsed by the American Legion or any of its subsidiaries. JUST AN UPDATE, ILLINOIS REPRESENTATIVE MIKE BOLAND INTRODUCED HB4333 THAT WOULD EXEMPT VETERANS HALLS AND CLUBS FROM THE SMOKING BAN. CHECK THE LINKS ON THE RIGHT TO SEE THE BILL AND YOU CAN CONTACT HIM AT: ilrepmikeboland@aol.com TO LEND YOUR SUPPORT.
