This problem also effects our compensation, because why would a vet pay a titled technician more when they can hire some one cheaper off the street. I believe if veterinarians were not protected this would make them furious. The only way we can change is with your help. It is time to make a stand and show America that we have had enough and are serious. If we stand together than maybe congress, and states will take a closer look.
As a fellow technician pointed out, "Some states have allowed grandfathering and those technicians deserve the recognition that they earned by passing the test after meeting their state's requirements. Perhaps instead of the education, a statement about holding the title as set forth by the state licensing boards and change the "non-titled technician" to assistant.(Thank you Melanie!)" I do agree with this because this still is considered a "Titled Technician(hence the name of the petition)" and would fall under the category.
This was started to create a movement and start something, if this went in anywhere, I would also suggest a standardized title as not to confuse who is, what from where. This was meant to spread awareness of the problem, if anything would go forward, then we would be allowed to specify what we want. We have to start somewhere!

The stories coming in about low pay and unfair hiring practices prove we have to demand standardized title protection now. Email your state veterinary board today and ask when they plan to address the misuse of the technician title. We need everyone to post the petition link on Facebook so we can force this issue onto the desks of legislators.

The momentum here proves that people are finally tired of seeing our hard-earned credentials ignored. Take this link to your local practice manager and demand they classify staff correctly. Post this petition on your professional social media pages right now to keep the pressure on state boards.

the title should be protected just like nurses. totally insane that anyone can just call themselves a tech with no school or boards!
Finally someone said it. I put in all that time for my degree and certification just to be lumped in with people who have zero training. It needs to change.

its so frustrating being asked to do procedures i spent years learning just for someone who just started last week to get paid almost the same. fix this.
