Veterinary Technicians are on the front line right now and their education is vital to successful patient outcomes.

Veterinary medicine is just as important as the other allied health professions, we have been deemed essential workers during this pandemic and have continued to save lives. We are short staffed and tired and need more vet techs. Let them finish so we can get some backup

Vet Techs are essential workers! Allow these students to complete their education in the classroom as they should, and enter the workforce with the confidence and skills they need to excel in their field!

Veterinary technicians are essential to the smooth work flow of a clinic. These students should absolutely be allowed back on campus to finish their labs so they can be ready to take the VTNE this year. Their lives and very much needed and underappreciated careers should not be held back when something could be worked out easily.

Please allow these essential students back on campus. It is the right thing to do.

It took me 7 months to become approved and receive my license. This was before the virus and shelter in place. I can imagine it taking double that time or more for these students to receive theirs during this current situation. Now the school is preventing their students from finishing their education, thus extending the time it takes to receive their license... smh. Glad to know where we (apparently so called essential personnel) stand during this pandemic. Essential enough to risk our lives caring for other people’s fur babies but not essential enough to finish our education to receive our license. Thanks for reminding us how under appreciated we are.

Veterinary Technicians are essential!

Please understand that I, and many of my fellow Vet Tech Program students, are absent from today's Zoom meeting not because of disinterest, but because we are on-shift, interning and working to provide essential services to our communities by caring for our veterinary patients. We have been working throughout the shelter-in-place, implementing and following strict hygiene, PPE, and distancing protocols to protect the health and safety of workers and clients. We ask that you end further interruption of our education and allow us to return to campus this summer to complete our laboratory classwork. It is only through such timely completion that we can: a) better represent Foothill College nationally, through the national board exam, and locally as vet tech graduates and Registered Vet Techs (RVTs); b) better support ourselves with more secure employment and better income as RVTs, and; c) better support our veterinary patients, human clients, and understaffed workplaces. Delaying access to campus and our laboratory negatively impacts continuity and coursework for the current two years of enrolled students and possibly future classes. We are asking Foothill College to fulfill its mission statement to enable students of the Vet Tech Program "achieve their goals as members of the workforce, as future students, and as global citizens".

Our field is considered essential and is already severely understaffed. We implore you to let us back on campus to finish getting our degrees so we can become certified veterinary technicians. As being a part of the Allied Health Program, we fully understand proper PPE protocols and work closely with our hospitals and clinics to make sure those are enforced. Please allow us to finish our education and become certified so we can help make a difference.

The lack of consideration for your students in this essential Allied Health program is disturbing.

Emergencies and urgent care cases don't take breaks during Shelter in Place. As a student currently interning in a hospital, I'm constantly seeing patients with clients who need to come out of their houses in order to be seen by us and the doctors. I'm limited to what I do unless I am able to graduate. It's a risk for an essential worker as myself. And because we are at risk every single day we step out to work, we follow safety protocols to provide the necessary steps against exposure to COVID 19 AND zoonotic diseases. Please consider us as essential workers since our governor does.

we Vet tech save lives too

Please allow us to return back to campus this summer so that we can complete our last course and get to graduate. This will not only benefit us (vet tech program students) in continuing with our hands on learning and skills, it will allow us to apply for our license that will earn us a higher income and qualify for a full time position at our current jobs/internship sites. Government officials consider veterinary hospitals as well as veterinary personnel as essential workers, we are all still working long hours providing care to our sick and healthy patients. We take all precautions, have managed to modify our hospitals allowing us to keep not only employees safe but pet owners as well by wearing personal protective equipment at all times, washing our hands consistently and disinfecting every surface to prevent spread of bacteria through fomites. Please, if there’s a chance other allied health programs at foothill college are allowed back on campus, we, the veterinary technology students class of 2020 ask that we are allowed back on campus to complete our laboratory classes. It just makes no sense that out jobs are essential but our education is not. Most of us have been working since the begging of this pandemic , have helped our clinics develop covid protocols. And are the bests at making sure to keep safe and keep others safe. We have enough in our lives to be dealing with at this times, to add on the stress of not having a school that backs us up in times like this.
