The intersection off of exit 48B between Laurens Rd. and Verdae Blvd. is known as a corridor for the Haywood Mall, and Woodruff Rd., two major destinations in Greenville, SC. These two roads are also known for the traffic in the afternoon and in the mid to late evening.

As renovations grow on Verdae, another proposal is currently in the process. There is a major development proposed by Verdae Development and it plans to redevelop over 100 acres between Verdae and Woodruff. This group claims that traffic will be lessened with parking spaces behind commercial buildings; however not only is this intersection already known to many locals in the Greenville area, but it also seems easier to get onto Verdae rather than Laurens Rd. to people who are not familiar with Greenville.

Many people know the commercial access Verdae offers. The traffic is most common during the mid- afternoon lunch hours and the mid -evening work hours. This causes ease of access difficult to daily Verdae travelers as well as people going to either Haywood Mall or Woodruff. We feel the problem could be solved by extending the traffic light for Verdae’s left turning lanes allowing drivers turning to get to Mauldin or onto the interstate more efficiently.

Our vision is to create awareness of the new projects coming to Verdae, the traffic now and the traffic expectancy. Our overall goal is to gain support for our traffic light solution. In order for a bigger effect we need more support, and it starts at those whom it affects, everyday drivers.
