Having seen the video and read the reports about the barbaric treatment of Miss Uzoma Okere by the aides of Rear Admiral Harry Arogundande, we are herby calling on the Federal Government of Nigeria to set up a public panel of enquiry to establish what happened and why Miss Okere was treated in such a barbaric manner. The public beating and stripping of Miss Okere negates the rule of law this present Government has preached since its inauguration. We believe that Nigeria has moved on from the lawless era of anything goes. Whilst we are encouraged by the reaction of the Lagos state Government we want the federal Government to live up to its responsibility of protecting every Nigerian. If the statements of the Director of Naval Information, Commodore David Nabaida, are anything to go by, we are not reassured that they will be able to carry out a fair and impartial enquiry. We strongly believe that a public enquiry will send a very strong signal from the Government to people like Rear Admiral Harry Arogundande that this Government is serious about establishing the supremacy of the rule of law. Whilst we believe that majority of the members of the armed forces are law abiding, there are a few who behave as if they above the law and can do anything they so desire. We do not agree with this mindset as nobody is above the law. We want the Federal Government to ensure the safety of Miss Okere and the staff of Price WaterHouse Coopers from where the video was filmed. Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria
