UW's 2009 SPCOM Needs An Official Lounge!

In the heart of UW campus, the Speech Communication program is a growing, thriving place of busy and dedicated students. With the Green Room (now, only for Drama students) and the ML Language Lab (not to be used for speaking or group work) unavailable for SPCOM students, it has become evident that we feel lost without an official space to communicate- one thing WE do BEST! Not only will a lounge benefit the SPCOM student body for communicative and social purposes, but also the lounge will serve as a standard meeting room for SCS meetings. It will also be used as a central source of information, which will assist in recruiting students and answering questions for potential and current students. As one SPCOM student puts it:"I have been a student within the SPCOM program for over four years. We have continued to struggle with the issue of not having a lounge for many years. With the ever expanding rate of SPCOM student enrollment, class sizes, class offerings and group work required within SPCOM, the lack of resources available to SPCOM students has become increasingly apparent. I encourage the ASU to actively investigate this issue, and call upon all SPCOM students to support this much needed initiative. It is important that our voices are heard by both department and university administration, so that we may work together to accomodate the needs of all students within SPCOM."
