"UT Arlington to resume partial operations Sunday, December 8, and will reopen on Monday, December 9...Please exercise caution, as some side streets, parking lots, and sidewalks on campus continue to be icy." -Sent from official communication by the University of Texas at Arlington.

As we are all aware, the roads have been covered in layers of ice, making it difficult and near impossible to drive on. There have been numerous motor vehicle accidents, many injuries and even deaths related to the weather this weekend. In response, many highways such as I-30 have been temporarily closed in hopes of removing the ice and making commutes safer for the community. With this being said, UT Arlington is still pushing for resuming business this Monday.

There are many people who drive to school who have commutes that range from five minutes to an hour and a half. Weather conditions in the surrounding cities are not safe to drive in and even meteorologists have been recommending for everyone to stay home and not drive anywhere unless it is a true emergency. Whileit is understood that many have holiday plans to partake in after taking their last final, would the decision to resume all operations this coming Monday be wise?

Until the roads are safe to drive on, this petition will be one that voices the concern of students, faculty and staff who are against the University of Texas at Arlington resuming operations this Monday, December 9th.
