The University has announced that it is proposing to shut down the Pav this summer. The Students' Union made it clear when told this news at the end of last week that they did not agree with the decision. We will be fighting this decision and need YOUR HELP!
The Registrar of the University (who was heavily involved in the staff cuts) has announced the decision. He believes a new venue to replace the PAV will be ready for September - this is not something the Students' Union believe to be viable. You cannot build a new venue in less than four months that's fit for purpose. In short this would mean NO NIGHTCLUB come September. Any new venue would be unlikely to be built on Castle Irwell.
We would be happy to have a new venue built, but need to be assured that the PAV remains until the new venue is ready to go.
Furthermore to tell an independent organisation that their venue will be closed has serious repercussions for students and the future of student spaces around campus.
Therefore when you sign the petition you are asking for the following.
"We ask the University not to close down the Pavillion until a new suitable nightclub can replace it after the consultation of students and USSU."
One hundred people have signed this now. It has been a long and draining week but seeing this number reminds me why we are fighting. We keep going until we get a real answer.

The Pav is the only place worth going on a weeknight. Dont shut it down before building the new one. Its common sense!

Fix the new venue first then close the old one. Why is this so hard for them to understand seriously
