Pro/Rel must become a reality. This is holding back American soccer more than anything. I live in Raleigh, NC...we have over 14k youth players in the area and the closest MLS team is 4-5 hours away. Having a top level team for the local kids to support (or at least a team with a chance to move up) would motivate so many of them to be better, in hopes of playing for them one day. Instead, MLS feels like some sort of distant league...kids here can name EPL teams more so than our own countries MLS teams or players. That’s not right. Smaller markets need a chance to have teams promoted to the top of the game, this would grow the sport and talent pool at the grassroots level like it is abroad. The US closed league system is garbage. MLS could be 10000 times bigger than it currently is.
