Sorry to the person seeking this variance, but I fell this proposal, if approved, will lead to other similar actions which could change the unique flavor of Lago Mar, and culminate in an unsavory situation for all residents. Too much has been accomplished over the decades to allow for this to occur. I feel confident that this proposal will not be approved.

Strongly disagree!!! Move out to the country far away if you want to live this way. You don't force it upon others who don't want to live like this. Also, we want to feel that our children will be safe playing in their own neighborhood. You should just relocate to another area, to suit your personal/business needs.

We strongly oppose this variance per the previously stated reasons....our (or any) neighborhood is no place for a "recreation / party" center - especially located BEHIND someone's home.

I completely oppose sub-dividing any dwellings within Lago Mar neighborhood!

My wife and I agree that allowing this would set a poor precedent for our neighborhood and could lead to additional undesirable situations.

I moved from the resort area to raise young kids in a neighborhood setting. Having nightly/weekly rentals in this type of neighborhood is not appropriate. Neither is separate residential houses on the same lot concerning the price and type of neighborhood due to its current zoning.

I am very much against using the homes in Lago Mar into hotels. This not a resort are. We should not lower the nature of this area to be anything less than residential property just for the owners and close family,

Agreed! We have an airb&b with high turnover, operating like a mini-hotel across the street from family homes. That is what this situation is, and why it is opposed.

Mother in law suites are one thing, renting to 2 and 3 couples every weekend and during the week is another..........

I don't see the poroblem with this as a guest house or especially with aging populations that don't need as much space or want to move in with children. This is actually the reason we moved to Lago Mar as we could not build separate structure (ie pool house) to use as mother-in-law suite for my mom as it was not connected to the house at our other property. I brought up the fact that it says breezeway which I interpreted as a covered walkway and city permits said it had to be enclosed and conditioned space, which to me is another room Not a breezeway. You are allowed to have seperate dwelling with separate kitchen if family member lives there if in main house which is what we did here in Lago Mar to not deal with variance ordeal. I wish them luck.

Here is the link to the airbnb that is being run out of the pool house. That is the issue-zoning does not permit it. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/14873344?location=Virginia%20Beach%2C%20VA&checkin=&checkout=&adults=1&children=0&infants=0&guests=1

Someone should post what the sign really says. I've been through this process over the last 2 years with the city. Our zoning won't allow the detached living space. I'm not sure why the city would even hear it except to collect $250. The fact is though that if the civic league wants to oppose this they are opening themselves up to having to have to go after the over a dozen homes that already have non-permitted in-law suites and detached dwelling units. They will also have to go after all the non permitted sheds or the sheds that don't meet the required set backs for our zoning. Or do they go after the people riding golf carts in back bay in the part that didn't pass the golf kart ordinance. If they want to open the Pandora's box go ahead. But you can't pick one family to go after or post a misleading photo and make an assumption that they are renting it out. I'm not for people building structures to rent out, but the current trend right now in the U.S. is for kids to stay longer with their parents and for parents to move back in with their grown kids. Neither of those two should be a problem. And neither of those brings down anyone's property value unless they build a building that doesn't fit in with the community. I would just say maybe someone on the civic league should talk to them. But I would tell everyone to check the zoning rules for R-15 and their own property because all you have to do is check google earth or drive through the community to see a large portion of homeowners have violations.
