This petition is to establish the need for foster children especially babies to have a lawyer that can represent them and not the system. The lawyer needs to know the case in and out and see the child while in care so they can be a voice for the child. Along with the lawyer the foster parents need to be recognized in court as a voice for the children they care for, due to the fact that they spend the most time observing the needs and reactions of the foster children that are in their care. Babies are especially vulnerable and need to be represented and someone to speak for them that knows their everyday needs. It is the child’s inalienable right to lead a safe and happy life.

There also needs to be reform on who gets to make decisions on a child’s life. This should not be left up to a person who doesn’t even know the child and what they have been through. It should take the decision of many and all need to be in agreement. Every person that is involved with foster children needs to be educated on attachment and bonding and what can happen to these children when you break a bond abruptly. This includes all case workers, attorneys and especially the magistrates or judges.
