Sign this petition if you believe our National Anthem should be updated in order to represent the different nationalities who contributed to this country's greatness. The National Anthem was written by Frances Scott Key September 14th 1818 and became our Nation Anthem thru and act of Congress in 1931 during a time where the civil rights of all men and women were not regarded equally.
I am I am a U.S Navy retiree and a veteran of several foreign wars. I have risked and dedicated my life to uphold the values and principals of this great nation. However, I also recognize its greatness is due to the efforts, blood, sweat and tears of many nationalities, cultures and backgrounds.

I have spent many evenings reflecting on my time in the service while reading your messages about what this country represents to you. It is clear that while we all honor the sacrifice of those who came before us we are ready to embrace a song that truly reflects the diverse people who built this nation together.

Seeing this conversation grow keeps me grounded in the same ideals I fought for in the Navy. It means the world to see so many people acknowledging the diverse hands that built this country's history.

The full version really needs to be revamped. I never knew the full version until today . Im sad that our country stands by it.
Since they already have and have been ignored all my life. So why let them be disrespected again? I agree this
That anthem was written only for caucasians. We were never included in their plans,and this crap of an anthem truly displays it. Change it!!!
I totally agree...And maybe then and only then we'll have something to STAND for in this undivided world...
The United States is where I was born, and not no Africian American. That song should represent all races, ESPECIALLY the people who built the states, not the thieves and raspiest.

WE will not prosper nor survive as a country until ALL contributions and sacrifices are acknowledged and ALL are EQUALLY represented. Let's cut the charades. It's time to BE what we say we are as a democracy. Full stop.
