Petition of Up North Jobs to Governor Tim Walz
Twin Metals Minnesota is a Minnesota mining company focused on designing, constructing and operating a copper-nickel and precious metals underground mining project near Ely and Babbitt MN and is committed to doing so in an environmentally responsible way. When operational, Twin Metals will employ 650 people in well-paying jobs, create 1,300 jobs in mining related industries, stimulate regional economic development and job growth, and generate tax and royalty revenue supporting state and local governments and education of 900,000 K-12 students statewide.
Twin Metals will soon submit a mine operating plan and begin the process of obtaining a permit to conduct mining operations. The undersigned submit this Petition and respectfully ask the Walz administration to support Twin Metals' proposed underground mining project.

Seeing all these names popping up is wild because it proves that people really do care about these jobs up north and I honestly did not think it would move this fast when I first started the page. It feels like the momentum is finally catching on which is great because we really need someone to listen to what our communities actually need.

Our struggling businesses, Cities, and schools need these jobs. We are in desperate need for this. Why can’t you open your eyes Better yet. Come up here for a month. In winter. See how the tourism industry is thriving and the local business doing great. When in reality half of them have to close in winter because they can’t afford the heating costs !
Your environmental goals cannot be met without mining the strategic metals required. Northern Minnesota needs the economic benefits that this mining will bring. Also, the United States must become self reliant on critical metals and elements for our security and economic future. Modern mining methods, government oversight and the will of the people insures a safe and environmentally sound operation.
Twin Metals will supply much needed minerals/metals for green energy products and our electronics/hi-tech driven economy. This will provide good paying jobs and benefits unlike the slave labor jobs with no safety or environmental protections in other foreign countries. We can and will do this mining in an environmentally responsibly sound process!!
I have followed the PolyMet project since 2005. They have done their due diligence and received their permits with Commissioner Landwehr’s approval that copper mining can be done without acid mining drainage. We all want to protect our environment and water. We can mine safely.
Ely, MN is originally a mining town- where I was born & raised. My grandfather, Niilo Tuomela, worked at the Pioneer Mine for many years! The laws/rules were A LOT different back then, and not only did we ‘survive ‘ but Ely prospered!

These year round environmentally sound mining will help the area prosper once again. We can’t survive on the tourism industry alone. We need these great paying year round job mining offers! We can and will have a clean environment and mining!
