University of Birmingham car parking

Looking at University plans the overall losses are set to continue. There is some respite when the Munrow is knocked down but this will be short lived as there are plans to build on it very soon afterwards.

My comments echo what has been said above. For anyone with care responsibilities, it is incredibly difficult to arrive to work anytime after 8:30 and find parking, even in the multi-storey car park some days. The university has a duty towards all its staff, including those with access issues and care duties/young families, and in this we are failing miserably.

I had to hold a meeting with a visitor from the University of Nottingham in their car because all parking spaces were occupied despite driving for 30 mins around to find one.

I have child care commitments and I arrive at work at 9:00 and there is never any car park spaces. This does not fit well with the Athena Swan Kite Mark as it feels as though parents are being classed as second class staff when it comes to parking. Also, it is very embarrassing for external staff to turn up late when they have to trawl around the campus for ages trying to find a parking space

It's terrific to see all the improvements to campus, but the significant lack of parking makes it really hard to leave during the day for off-site meetings with partners and then be able to return. It is also becoming really hard to invite externals onto campus when they are guaranteed not to be able to park between 9.30am and 3.30pm. This is how extreme it has become.

This is made even worse by: . number of builders on campus so that some car parks are completely dominated by them . skips, trailers & university vehicles permanently blocking parking spaces . parking spaces that are too small so that, in some car parks, one place in 5 can be unusable.

Car parking is a real issue. For people with childcare issues or health issues which don't qualify for disabled parking adequate provision is essential.

I have found it shocking to see that a car parking space that was open for anybody near to the Arts building is now marked as being for use only by a Pro-Vice Chancellor. If the University wants to remove parking spaces in order to encourage a more green way of living then this should apply to everybody and those in leadership positions should lead rather than making one rule for them and another rule for all other staff.

I cycle when possible but sometimes need to the car as I am dropping off or collecting my young baby before or after work. There have been numerous occassions when I have been unable to find a parking space when arriving on campus. It is also very difficult for visitors or research participants (some of whom may be elderly) to obtain a space as many do not arrive very early in the morning.

Complete lack of parking which is getting less and less for staff.

I've never known anything like it in the 5 years that I've worked at the University - I have spent an average of 30-40 minutes searching for a parking space since term began. It's a horrible waste of time and my only alternative is a 60 minute walk each way, which will be come increasingly difficult as my pregnancy progresses and the nights draw in.

The situation is made worse when contractors seemingly can park anywhere.

There needs to be a means for part time staff or those with caring responsibilities to be able to reliably park when arriving at work.
