We, the undersigned, would like to express our dissatisfaction with the organization of an anti-Romani and anti-human protest in Bulgaria (Protest against the gypsization of Bulgaria). The organizers of the protest claim to “protect Bulgarians from the Gypsy terror”. The protest is being organized by the Bulgarian National Radical Party (BNRP), which is a party with an open anti-Romani politics, their supporters and individuals. They are planning to organize it on 8 May 2011 in front of the building of the Bulgarian Parliament in Sofia and in front of municipalities in other towns in Bulgaria. The protesters demand for: 1. all privileges of the gypsy ethnos to be stopped, which does not contribute to our country; 2. to be secured police presence in rural areas where Bulgarians are subjected to daily harassment of gypsies; 3. to be forbidden to gypsies to have more than one child if they do not work and do not have any incomes! These demands have been disseminated and published all over internet, through which the organizers have been calling ethnic Bulgarians to protest and even harass, beat and kill Roma in Bulgaria. In our opinion, the protest aims to propagate racist rhetoric, hatred, intimidation, discrimination, hate speech and violence against Roma. Such demands and propaganda of the organizers and their supporters rigidly violate the human rights of Roma guaranteed by international and constitutional laws! Such actions are “highly dangerous and criminal against the national and racial equality”, as the Bulgarian Ombudsman Konstantin Penchev, said! According to article 20, paragraph 2 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights of UN “Any advocacy of national, racial or religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence shall be prohibited by law” . The Bulgarian Constitution promotes the principle of equality and prohibition of discrimination (article 6, paragraphs 1 and 2 ) and prohibits in article 44, paragraph 2 the establishment of organizations, whose activities lead to incitement of racial, national, ethnical or religious hatred, and to infringement of rights and liberties of citizens. We are urging your prompt reaction by signing this petition, against the organization of such events, which are unlawful and anti-human under Bulgarian and the European legislations. Such a protest would threaten the security of all Bulgarian citizens, regardless any grounds or affiliations. We are asking you to join us in the condemnation and prohibition of radical political parties, such as BNRP, future anti-human protest, propagation of incitement of hatred, discrimination, violence and ethnic cleansing, through any communication means. We also urge you to punish accordingly all those who break the Bulgarian and Europeans laws with such activities.
