Uniqlo has manufactured a women's t-shirt with the following text on it: "To be completely woman you need a master, and in him a compass for your life. You need a man you can look up to and respect. If you dethrone him it's no wonder that you are discontented, and discontented women are not loved for long." This, regardless of being a Marlene Dietrich quote, perpetuates the patriarchal notion of male dominance and female subordinance, and encourages females to endure their oppression by men, and even to consensually succumb to it. When we take into consideration the ongoing domestic violence, relegation of women to the home, and struggles of women in the workplace in this world, to name just a few things, this is clearly a problematic idea. Uniqlo's act of printing it on a t-shirt implies a celebration of the meaning behind the words, and this is unacceptable. We, the undersigned, demand that you remove this item from your shelves and halt production immediately.
The emails I receive from the company are cold and deflect all responsibility for the message on this fabric. It is exhausting to fight for basic dignity against a massive corporation that refuses to listen. I am still here because the sentiment printed on these shirts is exactly the kind of thinking we are working to leave behind.

Seeing this grow has been exhausting but it reminds me why I started. It is clear that I am not the only person who finds these garments insulting. We are pushing forward despite the silence from the brand.

My wife saw this online and was furious. Really disappointed in Uniqlo for thinking this was okay to print.
