I will not be able to get my son to his events if he goes to Parkwood 12 miles away from his homein the wrong direction. I am a single parent and that is why I bought my home here.

I have many neighbors whose kids will be suddenly displaced and force them into a desperate decision to see their kids education suffer or have to uproot themselves from their community and move. Listen to your constituents, it will affect my decision at the polls.

When we moved to Union County 8 years ago from CMS, we planned it at a time that we felt would have the least negative impact on our two children. My daughter would be starting 5th grade and my son kindergarten. We knew the change would be hard on my daughter, but wanted to give her a year at an elementary school in order to meet friends to make the transition to middle school easier. The thought was my son who struggled with changes due to his sensory issues would not have to deal with any changes. He would be part of a school, learn the expectations , become comfortable in the school environment and develop friendships that would grow over his 13 years in school. As an educator myself, I know how important to learning developing these things can be in ensuring that students are successful. Unfortunately, my son had one year at Wesley Chapel and was then moved to New Town Elementary. His first grade year with the transition was extremely difficult. He eventually settled into New Town and has developed some amazing friendships, he is now in 7th grade and has become involved in sports teams and developed a sense of pride in his school which is now Cuthbertson Middle. The new redistricting proposal will move our neighborhood (The Glen ) to Sun Valley. If this change occurs, my son will be forced to leave the school he has grown to love, the friendships he has developed over the last 7 years to finish his last year of middle school and high school at a school that is in another town. We are currently 1.9 miles from Weddington and Cuthbertson. My daughter is a senior and teen driver. I feel comfortable having her drive to school with it being so close. I would not feel the same about her driving to Sun Valley. Thankfully this won't affect her, but it will my son when he is of driving age. I am concerned about the length of bus drive my son would have going to Sun Valley as well. He currently is on the bus in the morning to go to Cuthbertson (1.9 m

Please do not redistrict The Estates at Callonwoon. I moved to this neighborhood from Mecklenburg so my kids could go to the Weddington cluster schools.

We moved to Price Mill 11 1/2 years ago so that our son could go to the Weddington schools. He thrived in the Weddington schools and is now a junior at UNC-Chapel Hill. If he had gone to Sun Valley as is being proposed for Price Mill residents now, he would not have had the same academic opportunities and I doubt he would be in college where he is today. Please do not redistrict our students. We all bought our houses based on the schools we wanted our children to attend and this should not be taken away from us.

We moved to Union County 2 years ago. We invested in our house based on the fact that our children would be in the Cuthbertson cluster. In the suburbs, the school district is a driving factor in home sales and cause changes in market value. Will Union County reassess our taxes based on lower home values because of the redistricting? No. After reviewing the McKibben report it doesn't seem accurate. New construction has really picked up in western Union County. When I look at these neighborhoods, I see each home having 2 or more kids in the public school system. I also don't see how school population is going to decrease with graduating seniors. Most parents once kids are off to college will sell their home to downsize only to be bought by another family contributing children to the public school system. Union County needs to explore other options. Why settle for the first option? We need to examine the need for a new school cluster. There are companies that help businesses determine optimal locations for their businesses. Why not make an investment to determine if we need a new school cluster and where? I don't see the public school population decreasing in Union County within the next 20 years. It's time to solicit another evaluation. My children love their school as most of everyone on this list. Why destroy this? Why destroy this sense of community? It takes a village to raise a child... Finally, this is a result of poor planning and communication within the Union County government. Why approve land permits if there isn't room in the schools? Why not scale up the schools with the housing? Please keep this in mind during November elections.

When you buy a house one of the most important deciding factors is what school district itis in, when we bought our house in Sheridan it was because it was located in the Weddington school district, this was OUR choice not yours!!

I moved here specifically for the Weddington school district. This change would send my kids to Sun Valley and into a zone with a lower standard of education. This it NOT okay.

We spent our hard earned money to purchase a house in the Weddington school district so our children could get a quality education. Although all NC schools teach to the same standards, the quality of education offered is not equal. My children want to stay at Weddington.

We bought our home primarily on the school district and to have that changed is pretty ridiculous. How can a family plan long term when districts can simply be rezoned whenever? Makes no sense.

My family moved here from out of state specifically for the superior education that Weddington schools would provide. My child will not be going to Sun Valley regardless because that to us is not a viable option. Our only option will be to look for private school education. Please reconsider and allow all of our Union County children to have the opportunity to have a world class education.

This is a disaster! I bought my house this summer. CHoosing it specifically because it is within the Weddington boundary. I have no interest in being shuffled to a school that doesn't meet Weddington's performance on any level. My children will not be subjected to a subpar education as a result of UCPS's poor planning. The growth did not come over night. There are other options that can be exercised that need to be considered. Sun Valley is well known for having poor performance on test scores, graduation rates, college transition, & truancy.

I moved to Union County because of great schools like Weddington High School. To have that opportunity taken away from my children is very disheartening and will likely drive us away from public schools in this county altogether.

My son & daughter are fully vested in Weddington schools academically and socially. The failure of our leadership to plan shouldn't be at our children's expense. It's unacceptable! Parents make life/financial decisions based on education and what they think is right for their children. To single handedly pull the rug out from them is unfair and irresponsible.
