Staff must feel that their allegations of mismanagement and malpractice will be investigated fairly and thoroughly.

This move very good practice for the staff . quite rightly allowed to report unfair treatment from other senior staff for instance ....

Today, given the fate of whistleblowers all over the YK, it takes great courage to whistleblow. Pity top managers have not got a smidgeon of that courage.

What the hell sort of workers' solidarity is it to arrogate the power to ban workers from talking anout things? Trad unions, if they are real and not bosses' fronts, need their members goodwill now, Remember it was authoritarian arrogance by unions that started Thatcherism.

Hotlines are badly needed in many walks of life. People should not be punished for doing what is needed for the benefit of all

As a former Edinburgh Council employee and former Unison member I can say from experience that Unison are a waste of time when it comes to whistleblowing and dealing with bullying. No union has the right to deny staff discussing any topic. Sign the petition, your union can't stop you!

The article describes a collusion, nay conspiracy of truly Orwellian proportions;

I am signing as an NHS clinician and a member of Unison. Current 'whistleblowing' measures are completely inadequate and make it impossible to raise concerns without management meddling.

If implement an independent whistelblowing hotline is good enough for local authorities, why are NHS staff being denied the opportunity to even discuss supporting its introduction.

Unions should be run by and for the members, not careerist bureaucrats looking to their own interests.

Unions, show us you are there for the interests of ordinary workers. Show us you are organisations that anyone should trust enough to want to join.

UNITE & all other Health unions in Scotland should be organising and campaigning to defend & improve NHS staff working environment. They should put as much effort into seeking wokrkplace justice for vicitimsed whistleblowers and bullied staff as they do persecuting those who seek to improve the lot of NHS staff instead of collaborating with NHS executive management and policing their members and sitting on their hands helping the Scottish Government sweep wrongdoing under the carpet.
