A majority of the non-public school children live within a short range distance of transportation that they could be dropped off at their p.m. bus stop within that 30 minute time line that they would just be waiting for their connection to be made, at the high school, to take them home. We have much concern for the young, impressionable children riding the bus with high school students, who have no regard for their inappropriate use of language, behavior, and disrespect for the non-public student. It is with poor planning that decisions were made and adjusted for the non-public school students with no communication or regard to commitment to all that encompasses the total education experience and impression to all students, in the Mechanicsburg School District.

Proposed changes are particularly punitive and inconsiderate of younger children. As a parent of 2 such children who ride the bus, these changes raise grave concern for their well being - physical and mental as well as their personal safety.
MASD should do well to reconsider and make the safety of our children a first priority

I have a real concern with my upcoming kindergarten student being dropped off at another school and having to get on another bus. I also find the lengthy transit time to be unacceptable. Another soulution MUST be established.

Dear MASD,
Please strongly consider revising your proposed transportation plan for SJS Students. Permitting small children to change buses at another school and then ride with high school students is unsafe and not a decision made with students best interests at hand. Thank you for your consideration.

It’s totally inappropriate for elementary kids to be riding with high school kids. We all pay taxes and deserve SAFE, APPROPRIATE bussing for our children.

It seems that MASD is like any other business that puts costs ahead of common sense. To think someone actually supported SJS elementary school children riding with MASD high school students is not thinking clearly. I am deeply saddened that anyone in a school leadership position would think this was ok.

This is very scary to hear my new kindergartner would be switching buses and riding with high school kids. The age difference, maturity of appropriate language and overall behavior differences between kids versus teens is not necessary and should be forced to be combined. Very upsetting!

At best, this is a poorly thought out plan. At worst, this is potentially unhealthy and unsafe.

MASD tried to sneak the same proposal past us in 2011 when I had a rising 4th grader, now I have a rising 3rd grader. Apparently it was unacceptable for the Filbert Street kindergarten academy children to wait 10 minutes at SJS when they changed the school hours and the solution was to bus our children to the high school to wait 20-30 minutes to ride the bus with high school students. I’m not sure why they thought they could sneak it past SJS families again in 2018. I suppose they thought there would be an oblivious new batch of parents. The proposals that effect private school students are left off of the board agenda and minutes with the intention of deceit. This does not creating a trusting partnership with the public school, where we all still pay equal taxes whether our children attend them, or not.

I want the busing program to remain unchanged. What you are proposing is unfair, and will result in legal issues for the school district should a dangerous situation occur.

Please find an appropriate way to make this work without grouping young students with high school students. Young children do not belong on a school bus, especially in inclement weather, for over an hour!
