The district just confirmed they are scrapping the new bus plan and keeping the old routes in place. My kids can finally get home safely without those terrifying transfers. Thank you for sticking with me through this stressful fight because we actually kept our children safe.

Final supporters
The new MASD transportation plan for the 2018-19 school year calls for mixing students from a wide age range on buses, increased ride times, unnecessary bus transfers by children as young as 5 years old, and in some cases, different morning and afternoon stop locations that can be confusing to younger kids.
In particular, non-public students will now be expected to ride to the senior high school and transfer buses at the end of the school day, which is of great concern to the parents of students as young as 5 years old. In addition, these non-public students who are dismissed as early as 2:40 pm will now be expected to wait until 3:20 pm or later to depart for their homes, as that is the time the high school students are dismissed.
Join us in letting the school district know that the new transportation plan is not acceptable.

I have a 1st and a 4th grader in mechanicsburg school district. My 4th grader was horribly bullied by older students this past school year, it was so bad that we decided to pull both boys off of the bus.
This is unfair to non public school children and their parents who pay the same taxes as public school parents.
I guarantee this plan would not be acceptable if it were for children of the school board members. Very disappointed that anyone thinks this is a good plan.
It seems that MASD is like any other business that puts costs ahead of common sense. To think someone actually supported SJS elementary school children riding with MASD high school students is not thinking clearly. I am deeply saddened that anyone in a school leadership position would think this was ok.
Unacceptable wait time for children without bathroom facilities. Concerned about the age groups interacting with one another.
As I write my check to pay my taxes this week, I'm reminded that because of my choice to send my child to private school, I am saving the district significant sums of money. It follow, therefore, that the district should repay this savings by, at a minimum, providing the legally required transportation to the students of St. Joseph School without undue burden on these students and their parents. The current plan does not meet that standard.

It does not make sense that Early Elementary students have to transfer and wait almost an hour for a bus. In a classroom, school districts are limited to the age span of students in the room. Why is it suddenly OK to mix them for transportation?
