We the undersigned hereby affirm that undergrounding the power lines on Rancho Rd between Westminster Ave and Bolsa Chica Rd will be overwhelmingly beneficial to the community. The overground power lines on Rancho Rd pose several health and environmental concerns. The electromagnetic fields created by the lines have been shown to raise cancer risk in children. There are many homes with families lining the portion of Ranch Rd in question. Additionally, the overhead lines are situated close to homes as well as a drainage ditch. In the event of an earthquake or other natural disaster, the downing of the lines could prove highly dangerous if they fell into the water or on a home. Rancho Rd has weekday average traffic of 5550 cars. It is a main connector road between two very busy streets. It handles traffic to and from Boeing and the 405 freeway. It also sees heavy traffic along the bike/pedestrian path. Many people from the community use this path and it would be beneficial to them to improve this area and underground the lines. In the end, this project will aesthetically beautify The Rancho corridor with new and improved undergrounded facilities, and a complete decorative pedestrian lighting system with no overhead wires, just as a similar project did along the Bolsa corridor in Little Saigon.
