I am advocating the establishment of an LGBTQ support group at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke as a way for LGBTQ identified students to not only feel empowered but also validated through a safe, social and emotional space that encourages healthy and authentic dialogue. The main basis of the support group will allow for LGBTQ identified students at UNC-Pembroke to begin having serious conversations about how to address the lack of on-campus resources for queer and trans students ranging from housing options to community outreach initiatives to improve services for LGBTQ identified students.
