The seminar tutor is very enthusiastic but unfortunately they don't explain the answers that they write on the board - which is next to useless if you don't know how to get to the answers in the first place.

My tutor was enthusiastic about what she was doing and clearly enjoyed teaching. However, I failed to comprehend what she was saying on multiple occasions and she failed to comprehend what I was saying when asking her for clarification. This is unacceptable in an institution like york.

The quality of teaching I received was substandard. Basic communication skills are essential - especially when talking about complex and sometimes abstract ideas in maths. The communication was so poor that you could not ask questions successfully. If you did not already have A-levels in maths (which am fortunate to have), you'd still gain little knew knowledge from the seminars.

I never felt comfortable asking questions on areas I was stuck on due to the lack of English that the tutor spoke and their total dependence on scripts. Having a tutor who could actually explain the problems rather than mindlessly copying the solutions onto the whiteboard would be helpful.

The lack of proficiency in spoken English of seminar tutors makes grasping new concepts very difficult.
