We, the faculty of UMDNJ, desire to assist the NJ legislature in improving Higher Education in New Jersey.  To that end, we believe that the proposed restructuring of New Jersey higher education must (1) preserve the accreditation of our academic degree programs; (2) facilitate a non-disruptive transition of the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, School of Public Health, and Cancer Institute of New Jersey into Rutger's University; and (3) maintain critical healthcare services to the residents of the communities we serve.

We believe that the best way to  fully vet the complex issues related to the restructuring of NJ Higher Education is  via the legislative process and not an Executive Reorganization Plan.  Such legislation must:

1. incorporate faculty participation and input in the implementation process;
2. maintain the existing shared governance structure at each school;
3. protect and maintain academic freedom and tenure status of the faculty;
4. maintain all existing bargaining units and terms and conditions of employment;
5. provide sufficient resources to implement the reorganization and sustain the viability of each school.
