Establishment of an Ultrasound Practitioner Healthcare Role

I entered an ultrasound program under the guidance that an ultrasound practitioner position would become a position in the very real future. I got a masters in science in vascular ultrasound with the hope I could become a practioner. As sonographers we are the ones that visualize and investigate anatomy and pathology and can interpret more accurately then a radiologist or surgeon interpreting from still images and second hand knowledge from our reports. It would also alleviate surgeons (I'm in the vascular setting) time to see many patient post ultrasound to give them the results of the ultrasound and decide from there if the results warrant a consult with a doctor to discuss treatment.

This definitely show be implemented for those of us who have been in the business for a long time and who have reached a different level of skill set.

Repeat exams,incorrect exams for symptoms, wrong body parts/area/arterial for venous/ upper for lower. It just goes on and on.
