Yes, I think the time has come for this position to become available. I work in a doctors office and often find I am teaching the physicians.

I was an Advanced Practice Sonographers (APS) through the SDMS until they recinded it a few years ago. It was supposed to be the next step towards becoming an Ultrasound Practioner (UP). Many years and membership dollars later, it never happened. I hope if this finally happens it will be better managed.

A definite need!

For this to happen Veteran Sonographers need to have a grandfathering path to obtain this level. ARDMS/ CCI need to be "on board" with this so there is a streamlined credentialing process. The Sonographer roll should be redefined as a whole from staff Sonographer to practitioner.

I've heard thoughts about a program like this and I hope it's a reality. I would definitely enroll.

In South Africa it is legal for a sonographer to practice as an independent practitioner
