We, the undersigned, ask that Governor Schwarzenegger and Attorney General Edmund G. Brown discontinue their support of the “ultra-violent video game legislation”. This legislation aims to replace the ESRB video game ratings that are currently used in most states as well as other countries. The ESRB video game ratings are just as strict as movie ratings and television parental controls. This new legislation violates the 1st and 14th amendments of our Constitution by attacking our freedoms as United States citizens. We should be allowed to express ourselves by the video games we play just as we can decide what music we listen to and what movies we watch. Parents can just as easily, if not more easily, monitor their children's video games as they can their movie and music choices. It should be left up to the parents to get involved and make the final decision on what kinds of influences they allow to affect their children.
