Stop position cuts and bumps for UIC workers!
We, the University of Illinois students, faculty, and staff, firmly oppose the recent layoffs and position eliminations that have impacted over 90 employees. UIC has already cut nearly 400 employees since the fall. This spring, the governor announced that the percentage cut from UIC’s budget in the fall was being restored -- there’s no reason for the cuts to be happening now. The University of Illinois cannot succeed without the expertise of our world-renowned faculty, nor can we thrive without indispensable support of our clerical and administrative staff since they provide services that are likewise essential to our education. Secretaries, building service workers and customer service representatives – each have a role to play in making UIC run. We the undersigned students, faculty, and staff, call on Chancellor Allen-Meares to reverse these recent cuts immediately.
