As a student at the University of Illinois at Chicago, I am strongly opposed to the closing of the Center for Women and Families in Pilsen. The clinic provides vital treatment for an underserved population of Spanish-speaking immigrant women and children who cannot easily access care elsewhere. I believe that by closing the clinic, UIC is effectively abandoning care of a vulnerable group of patients in Pilsen. This is in direct contradiction to the University's mission statement, which explicitly promises to provide healthcare to underserved communities. For these reasons and more, I encourage the CEO, CFO, CMO, and COO of the University of Illinois Hospital to reconsider their decision to close the Pilsen clinic based on ethical obligations to patients and educational opportunities for students. Thank you.

The lack of response from the administration is disheartening but I am still pushing forward with the medical board despite the exhaustion. Your stories about what this clinic means to the neighborhood keep me going when it feels like we are shouting into a void.

Reaching this level of support feels heavy because it proves how many people truly recognize the value of this clinic. The fight is exhausting but seeing that I am not carrying this alone makes the next steps possible.

TOTAL DISGRACE. UIC should be ashamed of themselves for turning their backs on this neighborhood.

Ridiculous decision. This clinic is a lifeline for so many people in the community.

This place is the only reason my mother gets her medication. You cannot just shut it down she has no where else to go.
