Save the Center for Women and Families in Pilsen!
As a student at the University of Illinois at Chicago, I am strongly opposed to the closing of the Center for Women and Families in Pilsen. The clinic provides vital treatment for an underserved population of Spanish-speaking immigrant women and children who cannot easily access care elsewhere. I believe that by closing the clinic, UIC is effectively abandoning care of a vulnerable group of patients in Pilsen. This is in direct contradiction to the University's mission statement, which explicitly promises to provide healthcare to underserved communities. For these reasons and more, I encourage the CEO, CFO, CMO, and COO of the University of Illinois Hospital to reconsider their decision to close the Pilsen clinic based on ethical obligations to patients and educational opportunities for students. Thank you.
