Universal Lecture Recordings for UIC COM students

We, the first and second year medical students of the University of Illinois at Chicago, respectfully request our esteemed professors and administrators universally make available recordings of lectures to UIC-COM students. As college of medicine students, we are responsible and accomplished adults who wish to become exceptional physicians. We believe what our professors have to say is of vital importance in this endeavor. We can learn from them more effectively if we have access to a recording of their lectures. In instances when we are unable to attend class due to emergencies, family commitments, or other circumstances and at times when the pace of a course or a distraction prevents us from gleaning important details, we would benefit from having a recording of our lectures. We understand and are sympathetic to the concern among some faculty that these recordings could be misused. Safeguards can and should be utilized and perpetrators punished. However, we believe our college comprises honest and decent students who wish to use this resource in good faith to further the goal shared by the entire college of medicine community: to produce outstanding physicians. Since no infringement of copyright exists (see Section 110 of the U.S. Copyright Act), we respectfully ask the administration, department heads, and professors to give full support to this project and thereby grant us the opportunity to improve our learning.
