This organization has provided me immense opportunities and experience that translate to my current successes in graduate school. University of Houston takes pride in giving back to the community, but this decision to dissolve the community service faction of the UHFS is an egregious action that will resonate throughout the community in an extremely negative manner. Dr. Lee has supported and looked over the team which led us to 11 National Championships in 2011 alone. Those championships were not just predicated on our dedication to speech and debate, but mostly to the community service we carried out as a team and the support of our community. Bear in mind, if the University of Houston doesn't take adhere to this petition with utmost exigency and importance, University of Houston will lose one of its core organizations that best reflects the mission of UH and propagates civic responsibility in our members. Save our community, save our debate team, and SAVE the values that made the University of Houston a Tier One Campus!

Without question, the Urban Experience Program needs to moved out of the Division of Student Affairs and back to the leadership of Dr. Elwyn C. Lee. Dr. Lee started this organization out of a sensitivity for the racial minorities that already and could possibly attend the UH Main Campus in the future. Like the UH Forensic Society, which has been dissolved in its present form, the Urban Experience Program will also be dissolved in the very near future unless this petition is approved. To be short, there is no benefit to the UH Main Campus by forcing the continued suffering of the Urban Experience Program in its current division. The organization needs to be placed with the most meaningful leader among senior UH Administration, Dr. Elwyn C. Lee.

Love this program and I'm ashamed at the University and how they are doing everything in their power to minimize the amount of African Americans they are accepting into the university. Let's not forget that athletics plays a big role in the expansion of the University as we continue to pursue Teir one, and athletics would not be anything without African Americans!!!

I graduated from UH in June, 1972. It is extremely disheartening to see young students having to fight battles related to minority students and faculty fought 40 years ago. I applaud and encourage them to push forward. It is imperative that the University be responsive to communities of Color and make real commitments to diversity.

I believe that if something is an asset and not a liability, there is no need for a discussion about what needs to be done. Keep and help with the growth of UEP.

The Urban Experience Program has done an unbelievable job in helping with the success of students who are, underprivileged, in need of support, in need information, in need of academic strategy, in need of financial assistance Etc. The stats (program graduation rates, success etc.) are a prime example of UEP’s positive impact; it is imperative, that one looks at the context (chronology/ history) presented by UEP, to see why it’s such an important and needed program at the University of Houston.

The program is excellent and the events thrown by UEP are all to educate minority students on how to grow within the University of Houston.
