UEA staff car park charges are unfair and need to be reviewed

I have been working in Engineering for 40 years and never had to pay to park at any previous job. Started work at the UEA nearly 4 years ago, car parking fees were never mentioned in my interview. It was a bit of a shock to have £1,000 /yr taken off my salary. I work on site there is no option for me or any other tech support staff to WFH. So we all get penalised by this ridiculous parking charge.

I agree parking charges are ridiculous and unfair for students complete rip off!

The charges are not proportional to income.

Travelling between NNUH/BCRE/UEA often transporting work equipment means I can be paying for 3 lots of parking on any given day.

I have no choice about using a car and I work on various studies across various sites, including outreach visits. In one day I can be at Med, then NNUH, then BCRE, Edith Cavell and sometimes back to UEA again. This will affect me considerably. We already have to fight to find a parking space with all the closures.

I feel it's unfair to have to pay for parking particularly during the summer vacation.

The UEA use to be a place where working conditions and wages were very good but last few years, wages have come down and parking has gone up, conditions are changing and not for the better. UEA is no longer the place to work. Real shame

Even if you manage to get a parking space, if you have a meeting off campus, your space is lost! Effectively you have paid for the day and yet the facility is not there!!!! This is a dishonest tariff.

I live in Norwich and could easily cycle to work. Unfortunately this is no possible as I need my car for work purposes on a daily basis.

I agree the charges should be based on acutal earnings. I work part time (60% over 4 days) so end up paying for 4 full days' parking. I don't mind paying for parking, but feel it should be on a pro-rata basis and you should be able to park!!

I'm fortunate in that I can cycle to work and one of the reasons for choosing to do so, was because of the parking charges and the stress of not being able to find a space. I feel really sorry for those caught up in this battle, especially the part-time staff who can't find a space if they come in after the school-run and those on lower salaries, who have to pay the same as those on higher salaries.

I work 15 hours per week over 5 lunch cover periods, I have to pay the same fees as a member of staff who earns up to £37,000, as my earnings are £6,500 per annum how is this system fair. The parking fees should be based on ACTUAL earnings not POTENTIAL FULL TIME earnings. When I questioned my car park fees the explanation was that I pay half day fees, if a full time member of staff parks for half a day and earns £37,000 per annum they pay half a day also, how can this be classed as a justifiable reason to charge low income earners the same fees. I have worked at the NNUH, the car park fees are much lower, they are based on actual earnings and up to £15,000 the fees are £7.50 per month, over £15,000 the fees are £14.50 per month. Staff who use the Costessey park and ride to get to work do not have to pay, the parking is FREE. The system here is a very unfair system.

Really expensive and has gone up a lot over the past year. If you don't get there before 8.50am you can't get parked anyway as there is lack of spaces and you have to park off campus! I, like many do the school run, so I am constrained by time in the morning and really don't need this hassel before I even get to work!!

The people that make these polices are never there to take the fallout from the result. All policy hides behind Government targets and emissions, so smartshare is introduced to look good but in effect take up more spaces. Go back to the old fairer system, 0.3% of wages if you want a permit and the rest pay and display, no barriers needed.

It would be good if all the new buildings on site came with underground parking. At least this would mean that the extra staff required for the building would not be looking at existing parking spaces.

It is a disgrace that we should have to pay for parking in the first place. It's not as if I have a practical choice. Driving in takes 40 minutes, Bus takes best part of 2 hours. Park and ride takes me further away from UEA! Job requirements mean I don't have a set leaving time so can't car share. Free parking during vacations, when there are more car park spaces available, would be financially helpful. Space issue not helped by constructing new buildings on car parks! Transport office need to take their head out of the sand and provide more car park spaces as the Uni expands.

Also the glaring spectacle of the VCs "UEA 1" parked happily - and for free - in the layby opposite the car park. *Still* he does not pay to park, yet he earns more than all of us. Disgraceful and really not leading by example, Edward. Get out of your ivory tower and come and talk to the Little People who keep this place running, and who are all unhappy bunnies.

8 years of driving and parking, (well attempting to park!) and watching the evergrowing charges each year has made me wish that a multi storey car park should be at the top of the UEAs list and actually actioned and not dismissed this time! It doesn't have to be a huge tall ugly building, it could be underground?!?! Not that Biomass is particularly pretty to look at!!! Alsoo smart share spaces should be marketed a bit more, get people sharing cars and helping each other out.

The lack of parking and high cost makes it really difficult for part-time parents with school children to drop and collect - you do not have the time to spend catching buses! I agree part-time workers should pay a level in accordance to what they actually earn (small amount in my case!). Be realistic and wake up to the fact that some people really do not have a choice but to use a car.
