I am hugely disappointed that UC management seem to hold their postgrads input into this issue with such contempt. The prospect of paying for printing will severely effect the majority of us who have finely tuned our budgets. What will be the next condition, we signed up under, that is snatched from us?

I rarely do printing, but it still feels wrong to to impose a change in policy. As mentioned earlier at the start of the studies we were promised free of cost printing.

Signing in support. As well, to add, I'm in the Post Graduate Teaching program and printing is not free for us....however, as per the program name, we are POST GRAD students....what gives UC???

This change of policy is likely to have significant implications for our postgraduate community. Many postgrads already face significant financial challenges as they continue their education and contribute towards the success of the University. Moreover, levelling these charges is in tension with the important and correct idea that postgraduate students are junior members of a wider research community. While there may be other good reasons to nudge people towards less printing, it seems likely that costs were at the forefront of this decision. Budgetary restraint is of course important. However, I find the policy change disappointing for two reasons. Firstly, the changes were announced without adequate consultation with the UCSA, the UC PGSA or academic staff. Secondly, they target a group who are vital to the intellectual life of the University, frequently vital to the teaching needs of the University, and, in many cases, among the most financially vulnerable members of our academic community.

I'm all for sustainability - therefore I'd suggest a monthly printing allowance with additional charges beyond that!

While I understand the university's concerns regarding "sustainability, equity, and simplicity," I do not believe this policy addresses them adequately; in any case a policy change like this should not have gone ahead without proper consultation of all parties involved, nor as a change from unlimited postgraduate printing to paying from the first page.

As a Canterbury alumni I relied on these printing balances a great deal. I can understand maybe reducing them, but if someone enrolled with that promise they should at least be consulted prior to the fact, and the changeover should happen at the end of the year, not mid way

As a postgraduate student at UC (2014) access to department printing was a relief and a thoughtful service by the university. Changes should be implemented after consultation and should also weigh the consequences.

The course costs associated with a Masters or PhD are more than enough to cover the printing costs. We pay for a service, deliver it.
