To The Union City Area School District School Board We The undersigned petition adjustment in the Union City Area Elementary School programming to include Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade Elementary school Chorus. We believe a choral program in this age group will begin the rebuild of the music program in Union City Area Schools. This age requires the opportunity to grow on their skills learned in general music class if their interest allows. Research has found that learning music facilitates learning other subjects and enhances skills in language and social development. Over the last few years there has been a cut in this programming due to financial reasons and a push toward higher academic standards. We don't disagree that this is important but feel that the music and arts are essential to achieving this goal. You cannot have one without the other. We propose that reconfiguration be made to fundamentally teach our children with a holistic approach. Research has shown this approach will prepare our children for ultimate success.
