Individuals against Ubley Primary School's new Security Fencing & Electric Gates
In light of Ubley School's decision to install security fencing and electric gates into our small rural village primary school we: a/ are shocked at the decision to install security fencing and electric gates in a low risk school set in a quiet rural community (we had been informed a simple replacement was planned). b/ are extremely alarmed that there has been no comprehensive consultation with stakeholders (community, children, parents, etc) and that the school has displayed disregard for stakeholders and confidences have been broken. c/ are dismayed that the school has not provided full information on the security fencing (no visual images have been openly offered to all parents/children/community members) and that only partial information was provided in a newsletter to parents one week prior to works starting (24th Oct). We request: a/ a halting of works and, if the consultation process demands it, a reversal of works undertaken. b/ a full and comprehensive review of process (to include a thorough security risk assessment to establish school security needs). c/ a thorough and complete consultation with all stakeholders to be initiated immediately. We support and work towards an open friendly school environment in which our children can develop a strong sense of trust, freedom and community.
