Currently, UBC prohibits smoking within any UBC building or vehicle, and within eight metres of a doorway or bus shelter. This leaves highly populated campus areas such as sidewalks, outside seating areas and parking lots unrestricted. Our aim is to limit smoking to certain strategically placed, covered, designated smoking areas in order to eliminate the risks associated with second hand smoke. This will provide a healthier environment for students and faculty. Designated smoking areas have been in effect at UBC Okanagan's campus, for seven years, with positive results. If you would like to support this policy change at UBC Vancouver, please sign the petition below!
The silence from the administration is becoming hard to ignore. I keep reading the stories people leave here about their struggle to breathe on campus and realize we are not going to be quiet until they address this.

Reaching this level of support honestly feels equal parts exhausting and validating. I am too drained to celebrate properly right now but the momentum keeps me moving forward.

FINALLY. The area outside the nest is always disgusting. Just keep them in one spot so the rest of us dont have to deal with it.

Sick of walking through a cloud of smoke just to get to my morning lecture. It shouldnt be this hard to just breathe clean air on campus.

it's wrong for people who don't smoke and are against it, to have to inhale second hand smoke -- which is also very harmful for your health

You'd think if you were a smoker you'd be pretty good at blowing the smoke up into the atmosphere, and not into the faces of people walking by. Not in my experience... one up on this petition. Korner and Irving are the worst. Give them their own place so they can all blow smoke into each other's faces .
