UNIVERSITY AT ALBANY STUDENT ASSOCIATION REFERENDUM ON STUDENT ACTIVITY FEE

Be it hereby proposed that the following be enacted:

WHEREAS, the Student Activity Fee is used to organize campus wide events for the students, sponsor student group events, sponsor community engagement and outreach programs on behalf of the students, provide opportunities for students to grow in the workforce through pre-experience opportunities granted by the Student Association departments; and

WHEREAS, there was an election held where the Student Activity Fee was voted on in which the fee failed in the poll; and

WHEREAS, many students have come forward to say that they did not know what they were voting on and only thought it was another fee the university was trying to impose on them; and

WHEREAS, many students have also stepped forward to say that the wording on the Student Activity Fee was too vague for them to understand; and

WHEREAS, it was the duty of the Student Association to make it known to students the significance of the Student Activity fee; and

WHEREAS, if many students have basic knowledge of the Student Activity fee they would have voted otherwise; and

WHEREAS, if there is no Student Activity Fee, it would be bizarre for the students attending the university, especially the incoming Freshmen; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the Student Activity Fee election be recalled and a new election be conducted within before the end of the semester; and

RESOLVED, that information about the student activity fee be transferred to all students through all available resources; and finally

RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the Elections Commission, the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership and the Student Association Supreme Court.
