Education is one of the greatest privileges in the world. As faculty dependents, we get a head start on learning, with our tuition waivers. Yet, UA "fees" can cost more than the actual "tuition" does - which is where scholarship money comes in.

However, the University is changing its rules and is placing restrictions on this scholarship money for faculty dependents. UA plans to no longer give us refund checks for scholarship money that is in excess of tuition, on-campus housing, and meal plan costs. This means that students who live off campus would no longer be able to do so, if they are paying rent with leftover scholarship money. We would no longer be able to use scholarship money to pay for something as simple and necessary as college textbooks, because it does not follow UA's restrictions. We would no longer be able to invest those extra funds in a bank account for the future, though the money is rightfully ours.

We, as students and faculty dependents of The University of Akron, will not stand for these restrictions to take place.
