Other universities are postponing graduation. Why is Alabama canceling? We have all looked so forward to this for their entire life

My son has worked extremely hard to graduate a year early. His biggest disappointment is not having the honor of wearing the red mortarboard. The abrupt manor in which this has unfolded has left many seniors heartbroken. No time to say their goodbyes to friends or professors. My son has had an amazing experience at The University of Alabama, please don’t let this be the way it ends.

My son understands completely why graduation isn’t happening in May, but he is still disappointed. By allowing the Class of 2020 to walk in Aug or Dec you give them the chance to receive the recognition they deserve and have earned. All of the students have worked very hard the last four years to earn the right to walk for graduation. Under the circumstances I understand that’s not able to happen in May, but by allowing them to walk at one of the other graduations will complete their college career properly. Please allow our students to walk at an alternate ceremony. We are all incredibly sad that their big day is not able to happen. The University of Alabama has been a life changing experience for our daughter in so many ways, I would hate to see it end this way.

Please allow our graduates the experience they have worked so hard for over these last four years. They, and we all, have already lost so much. Being able to regain the privilege of walking across the stage to receive their diploma would help start the heal process for not only the graduates, but also their families and friends.

These students have had an abrupt ending to their time at Alabama without finishing that chapter of their lives. Please allow this to happen so that they can have a chance to come together and celebrate graduating and have some closure.

I would love to see my daughter graduate. She has worked so hard as so many students and should be recognized and have the opportunity to have a graduation. Please, reschedule this. These kids have had the best education here please don’t end their experience with no graduation.

The University has to do something for our children and for our family! They work toward this moment their whole academic life. The loss of the events that lead up to graduation, the Greek life events, the in class capstone work, the wonderful relationships with faculty and peers that are finishing....The loss is so huge behind the graduation ceremony. But rescheduling the ceremony itself would bring conclusion, celebration and healing to a very difficult time for our children and for our families. The university must find a way to honor this important time in their lives. I for one as a parent would be glad to serve on a committee to pull graduation together.
